MCP InstallationOne would think the easiest thing to get right is the installation of manual call points but judging by the picture dispayed some still get it wrong.

L-category (life safety systems) fire detection systems must be fitted with manual call points at the following places:

• All level exits from a building (fire escapes and lift lobbies on every floor)
• All exits to fresh air from the ground floor (even non fire escape doors)
• High risk areas ( industrial, hotel and fast food kitchens, etc.)

 

Mounting heights

In SANS 10139 this is specified as 1 400 mm from the floor +/- 200 mm.

The British standard was changed recently to +/- 300 mm due to the Rose Park retirement home fire in England where several wheelchair bound persons were overcome in a fire.
