HOW DO WE INSTALL ASPIRATION PIPE?

Colour

Aspiration pipe can be any colour. It is generally accepted as red but is not specified in SANS 10139 or EN 54-20. Xtralis state pipe can be red or white in colour.

Type

The pipe can be of any material with a smooth bore but is generally accepted as PVC type.

Pipe is to be 25 mm diameter.

Installation

Sagging pipeworkSampling pipes must be installed within 600 mm of the top of the roof.

This presents a problem in South Africa for pipes installed against tin roofs. ABS pipe expands by 0.1% with every 10ÂșC and with the high temperatures arising inside South African roofs the ABS pipes end up bowing and sagging.

Fixings

Xtralis state that aspiration pipes should be supported every 1 500 mm which is fine on internal ceilings but has to be re considered with the South African conditions.

We propose that all sampling pipe installed against tin roof sheeting be supported every 500 mm to avoid this unsightly bowing of the pipe. Rather put close fixings in the first time, than receive client complaints of sagging pipes and have to return to install more fixings.
